If your walking route no longer inspires you, its time to stand on your head. Seriously, walking is great and a safe, inexpensive way to get your 30 minutes of daily exercise in, but eventually you need to add some variety. When you use the same muscles in the same way daily, they eventually “Go along for the ride” instead of burning the high amounts of energy they did when you first started.
Think about ways you can add in other muscle groups, especially abs and arms. Swimming, gardening, canoeing or kayaking, Frisbee, bad mitten, tennis, or volleyball are all good upper body workouts. A weak upper body leads to back problems and poor arm strength as we age. Flash forward to the older person who needs help loading groceries into the car, rising from a chair, or holding grand kids who are inclined to give full-tackle hugs as they run to greet them.
Standing on your head may be a stretch, but didn’t we used to believe it improved blood flow to the brain. I wonder if it’ll help with memory too?

I take yoga, I am so imspired when others stand on their heads but I am not sure I’m ready, I’m off to try. My hamstring hurts maybe I need to mix things up. Love the quote about motivation!!
