Healthy Spicy Pizza Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 6 ounce tomato paste
  • 6 ounces warm water
  • 1 tsp. fresh minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. honey
  • 3/4 tsp. onion powder (not onion salt)
  • 1/4 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp. oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. marjoram
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper (adds heat omit if you don’t like it hot)
  • 1/8 tsp. dried red pepper (adds heat omit if you don’t like it hot)

IMG_2957Mix all ingredients into a sauce pan and heat for 3-5 minutes low heat.

This sauce contributes less than 10 milligrams sodium per slice compared to traditional canned sauce at 380 milligrams and 25% fewer calories per slice. Taste and tell me, did you miss the sodium?  We didn’t!  Remember, create a balanced plate and cover 1/2 your plate with fruits and vegetables.
