Best Turkey Meatballs

IMG_3087These healthy turkey meatballs are guaranteed to become a permanent replacement to your beef version. Tucked inside each meatball is 1/2 serving of vegetables and antioxidant rich herbs.

Serve over a whole grain and remember that 1/2 cup of noodles, 1/3 brown rice or 1/4 quinoa is one serving and many people eat two to three times this quantity in a single meal.  Balance out your plate with a colorful vegetables such as Italian green beans or roasted carrots.


1 pound lean ground turkey

1/4 pound turkey sausage

1 cup diced celery

1 cup shredded carrots

1 cup diced red onion

1/2 cup panko bread crumbs

1 egg

1/3 cup freshly grated parmigano-reggiano cheese

2 teaspoons fresh garlic

1 teaspoon oregano

1 teaspoon basil

1/2 tsp. sea salt

1/2 tsp. pepper

Extra virgin olive oil for cooking


  1. Combine all ingredients except for olive oil.  Mix gently and form 12 balls.  Over handling will cause the meatballs to become too dense and tough.  Form 12 meatballs.
  2. Cook meatballs on low heat in extra virgin olive oil or your favorite pasta sauce.  Cook covered for 30 minutes, turning every 5 minutes.

100 calories, 5 grams fat, 1.5 grams saturated fat, 50 milligrams cholesterol, 200 milligrams sodium, 4.5 grams carbohydrate, 1 gram fiber, 11 grams protein, 27% DV Vitamin A, 5% Iron, 3 Weight Watchers Points.
