Rhythm Superfoods, A Healthy Crunch

Snacking has lots of fans.  This practice is up by nine percent since 2014.  Busier lifestyles, an increase in smaller households and more flexible meal times are the primary drivers according to research by Technomic Inc. 2016 Consumer Food Trends Report. Consumers want portable, healthy snacks with new and unique flavors. If this is the criteria, Rhythm Superfoods, a new snack line made in Austin, Texas, the live music capitol of the world, nails it. Listen to their playlist as you read on. They make six varieties of kale chips (three roasted, three air-crisped), two broccoli bites and two beet chips. Honestly,  I prefer my kale freshly shredded, I don’t like cruciferous vegetables and I prefer concentrated beet juice in a shot glass 2 hours before a run. To each his own! I’m certain this snack line will have many fans because they share at least a dozen of the following nutrition attributes:

Kale is an excellent source of Vitamins A, C and K in addition to being rich in antioxidants, phytochemicals and carotenoids.  The sesame seeds give this snack an added crunch and adds protein to keep you fuller longer and nourish muscles. They’re air-crisped under low heat to maximize nutrient retention and allow their “raw” status.

Ingredients: kale, sunflower seeds, tahini, carrot, apple cider vinegar, cane sugar, onion, sea salt and lemon juice.

Yes they taste like beets but are crunchy like a chip. They’re dehydrated, not fried.  From a health standpoint, beets are a good source of potassium and nitrates.  Potassium helps to regulate blood pressure and muscle contraction and nitrates that are converted to nitrites by the body.  Nitrites have been widely studies to enhance athletic performance by improving blood flow, enhancing muscle contraction and improving neuron communication.
